Case 05 Next.js 15 · React 19 · PostgreSQL In progress 2025 to now

OpticPro

A practice management system for UK opticians, built by one.

Presenting problem
Independent and domiciliary optometry practices in England claim NHS sight tests through PCSE's eGOS system. A claim that breaks a rule is rejected weeks later, after the patient has gone.
Assessment
The rules are detailed. They cover notice periods between tests, early-retest reason codes, and the timing rules for domiciliary visit notifications. Patient data must stay in England. Existing systems check claims after submission, not while the optometrist is entering them.
Plan
Next.js 15 and React 19 over PostgreSQL. Fifteen module screens, from diary to dispensing. GOS claim forms check each rule as the data is entered and explain retest codes in plain words. All five GOS claim types and the domiciliary visit notification are built against PCSE's test service.
Outcome
In progress. All five GOS claim types and visit notifications pass against PCSE's acceptance-test service, and payment reconciliation is built. Online booking, recall and clinical images come next.

Case detail

Why a clinician is building this

I test eyes for a living, including in patients’ homes. The checks OpticPro runs at the point of entry are the ones I make in my head at the end of every domiciliary visit. Putting them in the form means the claim is right before it leaves the practice.

Where it stands

The NHS claims work runs as its own stream, tested against PCSE’s acceptance-test service. The interface for all fifteen modules is built. The next priorities are the ones every practice expects: online booking, automated recall, and storage for clinical images.

Screenshots will be added as the build reaches a state worth showing.
